Before the cruise

Arrival and eparture (Nile)
You travel with renowned German and selected international airlines in the respective country from/to Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Baggage allowance (minimum 20 kg) and onboard services vary by airline. On scheduled flights, e.g. with Lufthansa, Egypt Air, Royal Air Maroc or Royal Jordanian, you will usually be served a cold or warm meal or a snack and drinks, depending on the time of day. At the airports in the destination area, the employees of our local partner agencies will ensure that your arrival and departure runs as smoothly as possible.
Excursion package (Nile)
The excursion package according to the advertisement is always included with Nile cruises and does not have to be booked separately. If desired, the excursion package can be canceled. The travel price will be adjusted accordingly. Please contact your travel agent or Phoenix Reisen directly.
Flight information
The final flight information can be found in your travel documents, which you will usually receive around 3 weeks before departure. Flight time changes may be possible in exceptional cases even after receipt of the documents, particularly for charter flights. The cruise line will inform you in good time via your travel agent or local tour guide.
Notes on excursions
For Nile cruises and tours, most excursions and sightseeing are already included in the travel descriptions. In addition, the local agencies in the destination areas offer additional excursions that you can optionally take part in. Reservations and payments are made on site. In the city and beach hotels and on the Nile ships, the tour guides arrange the excursions.      
Hotel list (Nile)
You will not receive a list of hotel names from the cruise line in advance, so that the agencies can react flexibly to local conditions, such as possible disruptions in and around a hotel, right up until the last minute. In larger cities or tourist areas in particular, the agencies always have several options for finding good hotels. Due to the different mentality, it cannot always be ruled out that there may be short-term fluctuations in quality, such as in the service area, in oriental countries in particular. If necessary, the agencies can therefore adapt the selection of hotels to suit the guests.

For those who "stay at home", you can leave the address of the local agency (see "General information about our cruises" in your travel documents), because the tour guide on site is always informed about which hotel you are staying at.
Vaccinations
Regulations: vaccinations are not required for Egypt if entry take place from Europe.

Recommendations: one should check the standard vaccinations for children and adults on the occasion of a journey and complete if necessary. Please inform yourself in time about infection and vaccination protection as well as other prophylactic measures; if necessary, medical advice, e.g. thrombosis and other health risks. With regard to general information, in particular health offices, physicians experienced in travel medicine, tropical medicine, travel medical information services or the Federal Center for Health Education, reference is made to the website of the German Society for Tropical Medicine.
Children discount
On river cruises, children aged 2-11 receive a 30% discount on the passage fare when sharing the same cabin with at least one adult.
Clothes
Most guests prefer to dress casually while on vacation. On special occasions, such as at the captain's reception and the subsequent dinner, people like to wear elegant, festive evening wear. Wearing bathing suits and sportswear is not permitted on the ship's premises. For shore excursions, it is recommended that you take good walking shoes and comfortable casual clothing. See clothing recommendations for details.
Medical care
All ships have emergency first aid kits on board. Should medical care be necessary, contact will be made with a resident doctor/emergency doctor or a clinic on European rivers. For details regarding medical care aboard river vessels that sail the world, please refer to the “General Information” supplement that you received with your travel documents. When traveling abroad, we recommend that you take out international health insurance. You should take sufficient quantities of any medication prescribed at home with you on board. Please inform yourself in good time about infection and vaccination protection as well as other prophylactic measures. Phoenix-Savings- Room
The cruise line offers budget rooms in many selected hotels and accommodations, some of which are also referred to as economy rooms. The furnishings correspond at least to the lowest room category offered and the description in the catalog or on the website, but sometimes without a balcony/terrace or are slightly smaller. The number of economy rooms is limited. The location of the rooms may differ from the hotel description. Customer requests regarding the location of the room cannot be taken into account.
Travel and safety information
Travelers should always be careful in Egypt and adapt to local conditions, including clothing. The Egyptian government is trying hard to protect the tourists. The departure times for longer transfers, e.g. from Luxor to Hurghada, can be specified by the government. In exceptional cases, delays may occur as the security measures taken are extensive. Information from state security services and local tour operators should be strictly observed. The presence of security personnel and police is a common everyday occurrence in Egypt and is ubiquitous in strategic locations, in public and tourist facilities as well as at tourist attractions. On Nile cruises constant police escort is provided to the north of Luxor. Current travel and safety information can be found on the website of the Foreign Office.
Travel medical insurance
You will receive a luggage tag with your travel documents, on which you can enter the name of the cruise you have booked.
Senior citizen 55 + / 60 +
In many hotels, the cruise line offers guests over 55 or 60 years of age discounted rooms (not applicable to the Egypt Total package and combination  with Nile cruise, Cairo & hotel accommodation). Please note the information in the hotel descriptions. The date of birth is required upon booking. The decisive factor is the age at the time of the start of the cruise, not at the time of booking.
Sundays and holidays
The weekly rest day in Muslim countries is Friday. In addition to the month of fasting, Ramadan, other Muslim holidays are observed. Please be patient if there are slight service restrictions during this time.
Gratuities
An oriental feature in Arab countries is the handling of "baksheesh". So, for all services - no matter how small - a tip is expected or demanded. For all boat rides, combined tours and roundtrips, the travel guide will try to simplify this problem for you by recommending that you pay a tip of 3.80 € per person per day at the beginning of the trip. Depending on your length, the money will be collected in euros in cash and forwarded to the service staff responsible for you. For combo journeys, e.g. with Nile cruise and Cairo stay, the recommendation refers to both parts of the program. Thus you do not have to worry about individual gratuities during your entire journey. The amount is distributed equally to all parties involved, such as bus drivers, porters, cabin crew, waiters, cooks, etc. The payment of the gratuity is voluntary. Please inform your travel guide if you do not want to pay the gratuity. Your responsible travel guide, who accompanies you mostly on the whole journey and is also available for the outside Nile ships, is happy about an additional thank you from you. If you were satisfied, recommended is 10 € per guest once. For the accommodation at baech hotels recommended is 10 € per person and week.
Currency / rate
Unit of currency is the Egyptian pound (EGP / LE). 1 Egyptian pound = 100 Piaster (PT). 1 € = 20.7 EGP (or LE) (updat June 2018). The import and export of local currency is limited to 5,000 LE, i.e. euros can be exchanged in Germany up to this amount.

During the cruise

Payment (Nile)
For personal expenses, we recommend that you exchange EUROs for the local currency on site. In most North African and Middle Eastern countries, ATMs are available in major towns and many hotels where you can withdraw cash using your bank or credit card. Optional excursions can be paid for in EURO cash or mostly by credit card.
Movies / photography
Museums and ancient sites usually charge a fee for filming and photographs. The use of tripod and flash is prohibited. Often there is also a general photo and film ban at or of Egyptian sights. Before filming or photographing locals, you should ask them for permission, but for some tip (baksheesh) one or the other Egyptians allows to have pictures taken. Military installations and ports, bridges, railway stations and airfields may not be filmed or photographed.
Internet/WLAN (WIFI)
Most hotels now have Wi-Fi in public areas for smartphones, tablets or computers, free of charge or for a fee. Any costs can be found at the reception. During a cruise on the Nile there are usually strong fluctuations in the connection strength and the network may be temporarily out. Good connection options are available generally during laytime in Luxor, Aswan and Cairo. For Wi-FI use on most ships comparatively low fees apply. For unrestricted surfing on the internet, it is possible to purchase a USB stick from an Egyptian network operator by credit on site. Information is available from the travel guide on board.
Language
The Nile ships selected by the cruise line are mostly chartered exclusively and looked after by the German-speaking colleagues of the local partner agency Dynasty Travel, the cruise lines and the team around head tour guide Volkher Kirchhoff. When selecting the fleet, various cruise lines are used, which, thanks to many years of cooperation, can best meet the needs of German-speaking guests and have a lot of experience with the processes on board.
Telephone
The country code of Germany, Austria and Switzerland to Egypt is 0020, from Egypt to Germany one chooses 0049, to Austria 0043 and to Switzerland 0041. One can call easily from any hotel. You can do so via the reception, but you should inform yourself in advance about the costs, as these are usually very high at hotels.

Documents and papers

Visa costs for Egypt
The visa is issued (for German citizens) upon entry into Egypt. To save time and effort and to ensure a speedy entry upon arrival, the local agency usually offers the visa issuing service for you at the airports before passport control for a payment of €28 (including visa fee).
