The cruise line: the Italian way to discover the world
Costa Cruises has been taking vacationers to the world's most beautiful regions since 1948. No wonder that Costa unites tradition and modernity like no other cruise line. With 12 ships, the traditional company is one of the largest cruise fleets in Europe. In addition, the fleet will be expanded to include six ships by 2021.
Italian joie de vivre can be felt on the ships: on board, guests can expect a high level of relaxation with lively entertainment - naturally complemented by the appropriate Mediterranean cuisine. It is hardly surprising that Costa has a high percentage of satisfied guests.
The cruise line is based in the city of Genoa, which is so important for Italian maritime history. Costa Crociere is Italy's leading cruise line. It has been part of Carnival Corporation & plc since 2000. Costa Cruise ships are traditionally built in Italian style. Beauty, elegance and an ambience geared towards comfort and entertainment make your stay a pleasure. The cruise line with its yellow chimneys and a large “C” logo is known for its high level of service and the amenities it offers. Many valuable original works of art - including sculptures, paintings and handmade decorations - are style-defining for the interior.
History: new ideas and fresh concepts
The history of the innovative cruise company begins in 1948. The Costa family had previously transported fabrics and, above all, olive oil. That year, however, the first passenger journey from Genoa to Buenos Aires took place.
In 1960 Costa was the first cruise company to offer its guests tours to the Caribbean. In 1968, the cruise line linked the arrival of passengers to the start ports using the pioneering formula "flight + cruise". The Italians are also leaders in the equipment of their ships: in 2000 the Costa Atlantica set sail as Europe's first cruise ship, which also has cabins with private balconies. Costa was the first cruise line to offer cruises from Chinese ports. The old "Middle Kingdom" has arrived in modern passenger navigation.
On the ships there are children's programs, sports and leisure activities, a varied evening program and a German-language onboard service that complements the official onboard languages Italian and English.
The ships: elegance and comfort
Each ship of the Costa fleet shows its own style. In doing so, they all convince their guests with an elegance that is familiar from Italy. The yellow chimneys, which also appear in the logo, are typical. There is a suitable cruise ship for every requirement, for every type of vacation!
Costa Smeralda: Environmentally friendly with liquefied petroleum gas
Since 2019, the Costa Smeralda has captivated its guests with its contemporary style, which, like all other ships of the cruise line, exudes Italian flair. In addition to exciting places of culinary delights such as the taste studio, the Costa Smeralda is geared towards families, true to the southern way of life, which runs through all areas: as an example, the family restaurant or the Baby Squock Club. While the little ones are lovingly looked after there, their parents will find plenty of stimulating or relaxing entertainment options on board.
On the Costa Smeralda, up to 6,518 passengers in 2,612 cabins on 16 passenger decks can find a comfortable home at sea. In the course of environmental policy, the ship is on the move with LNG fuel (liquefied petroleum gas) and can therefore be described as a “green” ship.
Costa Diadema: the jewel of the seas
The flagship built by Fincantieri went on its maiden voyage in autumn 2014 and opened up new dimensions for the guests of the cruise line. More space, more innovations and the exclusive interior offer up to 4,947 passengers a completely new cruise experience. Eight restaurants and eleven bars create the perfect setting for culinary discoveries. The range extends from Japanese cuisine to the own Gelateria Amarillo. In special circumstances, the cooks are happy to consider and cook for the guests vegan or according to their allergies.
With 6,200 square meters, spread over four levels, the Samsara spa area is particularly spectacular. There is a choice of thermal courses, facial and body treatments, Turkish bath, Finnish sauna and much more. The 500 meter long promenade also captivates with its Mediterranean flair.
And art is present: 190 originals and 7,874 reproductions by well-known and emerging artists can be admired. The works play with themes from the Italian Renaissance and contemporary pop culture.
Costa Fascinosa: the perfect vacation backdrop
Identical to the Costa Favolosa, the equipment of the Costa Fascinosa is inspired by the masterpieces of cinema and theater. The interior is dedicated to personalities from cinema and opera. It is a dream world. Cuisine and entertainment are not neglected: Outstanding restaurants, stimulating bars, a 4D cinema or the Samsara Spa - to name just a few examples - ensure wonderful experiences on board.
The Costa Fascinosa was put into service in May 2012. A maximum of 3,800 passengers can be accommodated on 14 passenger decks and are spoiled by an 1110-member crew.
Costa Favolosa: fairytale castle at sea
Those who board this cruiser built in 2011 dive into the magical world of fairy tales and kings. Guests can feel like a prince or princess here. The Costa Favolosa always surprises - be it through the Gothic-style atrium or a lounge in which Swarovski crystals shine. Each deck is dedicated to a different building, which also influences the interior.
The ship was launched in August 2010, the last renovation took place in 2018. Like the Costa Fascinosa, up to 3,800 guests are at home on the Favolosa at seas.
Costa Deliziosa: great feelings for the cruise
The Costa Deliziosa is particularly elegant: a successful combination of glass and steel, underlined by the unique lighting, ensures a light feeling of space. This is where the sculpture by the artist Arnaldo Pomodoro comes into its own in the atrium.
Whether 4D cinema Étoiles, Grand Prix racing car simulator with real single seats or golf simulator - fun and entertainment is also well provided for in this regard. A spacious wellness area, various bars and restaurants complete the extensive range of this ship.
The ship was launched in January 2009. 934 crew members are available for up to 2826 guests, who can explore all the well-being and entertainment venues on 12 passenger decks in addition to the various cabins and suites.
Costa Luminosa: like a brilliant diamond
In 2009, this ship, shining in all rainbow colors, set sail for the first time. The designers realized the magic of light in it. 3,100 meters of modern LED lights and 120 teardrop-shaped Murano glass chandeliers bring out the most beautiful spaces. The numerous balcony cabins and large panoramic windows ensure that the Costa Luminosa is made for particularly scenic routes.
Costa Pacifica: the ship of music
The designers were inspired by the harmonious world of music. Music notes can be found on the decor. The composer Mauro Pagani was responsible for the arrangement of all the music on the ship built in 2009. One of his compositions can be heard in the spectacular atrium, which has panoramic lifts. Modern and classical music form the acoustic concept of every cruise
Costa Magica: experience pure Italy
The Italian heart of the Costa fleet beats on the Costa Magica: famous places and coasts of Italy are the godfather of restaurants, lidos and halls: the Salon Capri, for example, for the Bellagio and Portofino restaurants. Works of art from the famous Accademia di Brera in Milan shape the flair of this ship. In short: The Costa Magica, which first set sail in 2004, meets all the requirements of a grand hotel that is bursting with life.
Costa Fortuna: dive into history
This impressive liner is reminiscent of days gone by: advertising posters from the 1920s and 1930s show the transatlantic ships of the time and decorate the public areas. Models of earlier ships of the cruise line adorn the entrance hall - pure nostalgia!
The equipment of the Fortuna is modern and luxurious: four swimming pools, water slides, disco or casino do not let you get bored.
The ship was launched in 2002, but will be extensively renovated at the end of 2019 and partly completely redesigned. In addition to new shops, there have also been state-of-the-art cabins since then - the same ones that were designed for the newest fleet member, Costa Smeralda.
Costa Mediterranea: fascinating down to the last detail
Grace and sophistication permeate the decor and ambience of the Costa Mediterranea (2003). Exquisite works of art and a style that matches the Italian aristocratic palaces of the 17th and 18th centuries delight passengers again and again. The "Ristorante deglie Argentieri" shines in Sicilian Baroque, the sculpture by Gigi Rigamonti in the Atrium Maschera d’Argento is a tribute to the Commedia dell’Arte. If you want to practice sports on board, a two-story fitness center with a sea view awaits you.
Costa Victoria: the radiant beauty
Built in the Bremer Vulkan shipyard, this extraordinary ship combines style elements from Italy and Sweden: for example, the glass mosaics by Emilio Tadini, which have given the ship its irresistible charm since its launch in 1996, are visually emphasized with soft colors after the renovation in 2018. New bars and restaurants invite guests to relax.
Costa neoRomantica: perfect for the luxury cruise
The ship set sail for the first time in 1993, but was ordered to undergo extensive renovations in 2012. The result is a particularly elegant and exclusive ship of the Costa fleet. The charm of the Costa neoRomantica is not the size, but the amenities on board and the service for the curious and discerning traveler. It also offers shore excursions planned in great detail and ideally suited for smaller groups. The kitchen on board is also sophisticated. With this liner you experience a new kind of luxury cruise.
Cabins and suites: amenities leave nothing to be desired
Travel to the most beautiful destinations in Europe and beyond with the utmost comfort on the exclusive liners of the Costa fleet. The luxurious ambience is combined with an elegant wellness atmosphere - and this can also be felt in the cabins. All cabins are equipped with their own shower room, individually adjustable air conditioning, satellite TV, interactive television with pay-TV films (on almost all ships), satellite telephone and a direct line to the interior of the ship as well as a minibar, safe and hairdryer.
In the suites, guests not only have more space, but also exclusive service. Those who like it more comfortable, bigger and more personal are in good hands with the three ships of the Costa neoCollection. From the inside cabin to the grand suite, the cabins are an oasis of relaxation and comfort. Outside cabins and balcony cabins offer spectacular sea views.
On some ships in the Costa fleet, Samsara cabins and Samsara suites await guests; including wellness experience for body and soul (Costa Smeralda, Costa Diadema, Luminosa, Fascinosa, Pacifica, Favolosa, Serena, Deliziosa and neoRomantica). Accessibility is also very important on the Costa fleet. In addition to the cabins, almost all public areas are accessible, including bars, restaurants and outside decks. Signs in profile and Braille are used to orient people with visual impairments.
Food included - enjoy the affordable full board!
Around 500 Costa chefs do magic for you
Of course, traditional Italian cuisine is, so to speak, the specialty of Costa. But the around 500 Costa chefs also conjure up international dishes and typical menus from the regions they have visited. Fresh ingredients, the highest quality and variety also make the cruise with Costa a delight for the palate. There are gala dinners and gastronomic events during every Costa cruise. The midnight buffet, for example, goes on a culinary world tour. On the Costa Diadema and the Costa Smeralda, the West and the East meet beautifully in the Teppanyaki restaurant. The liner in the Gelateria Amarillo offers Italian ice cream prepared directly on board. And what would be more authentic than an original Italian pizza? Guests experience this pleasure in the pizzerias aboard the Costa fleet.
The restaurants: enjoy relaxation at sea
Buffet restaurants: they are located on the upper decks and offer a beautiful panoramic view of the sea and passing landscapes. Every Costa ship offers such a restaurant with an individual motto.
À la carte restaurants: you will find at least one main restaurant on each ship. Here you can enjoy the highlights of Italian cuisine or try typical dishes from the country you are in.
Club restaurants: expect an intimate atmosphere, spectacular sea views and great cuisine. Club restaurants can be found on most Costa Ships - and are available for a special night for a small fee (upon reservation). Fish of particularly high quality, selected dishes and exclusive wines are also served. Enjoy creations by outstanding chefs.
Samsara restaurants: exquisite Italian delicacies and international dishes are served there. The advantages of the Samsara restaurants are a private, quiet atmosphere, free choice of seats and high-quality ingredients. Enjoy light and gently prepared dishes for a small surcharge. There are Samsara restaurants on board the Costa Smeralda, Costa Fascinosa, Favolosa, Deliziosa, Pacifica, Serena and neoRomantica.
People with allergy, vegetarians and vegans
Even those who do without certain things for personal or health reasons: aboard the Costa fleet, the crew also pampers their guests with special nutritional requirements, such as people with diabetes or allergy. If certain diets are required, this should be discussed upon booking.
Gourmet travels with the Costa neoCollection
Anyone who appreciates flexible meal times will be happy on the neoCollection ships by which Costa is implementing an innovative SlowCruise concept. With this, Costa accommodates all crusaders who like to travel at a slower rhythm and want to dispose of their time freely. The luxury liners neoRomantica and neoClassica spoil their guests with a customized cruise. And whoever travels there with all their senses expects the same care and dedication when eating. Cruises with the neoCollection are therefore also gourmet cruises, where masterfully prepared SlowFood is enjoyed. Local dishes from the travel countries, combined with fine wines, romance at the table and good music combine to create an authentic experience.

Bars: for music fans and sweet tooth
The Grand Bar is not missing on any Costa ship. It is the perfect place to start the evening, with a good drink and lots of music. You can dance. Handmade music flatters the ear at the piano bar. Sweet tooths are particularly well catered for on board the Costa Diadema, Fascinosa, Favolosa, Deliziosa, Luminosa, Pacifica, Serena and neoRomantica: there the chocolate bar delights with delicious chocolates and the chocolate fountain.
Atrium bars - also known as welcome bars - provide impressive views of the inside of the ship. Because the shore excursion office and reception are nearby, the atrium bars are perfect starting points to explore the ship. They are aboard most Costa ships.
The Costa Diadema comes up with a surprise for friends who enjoy fine beer: the onboard brewery "Dresden Green" serves fresh, cool beer. Varieties of renowned Italian and international beer brands can also be founf there. Smoking
As with almost all cruise lines the smoking of cigarettes, cigars and pipes is only permitted in designated areas, the smoking points and the cigar lounges. Smoking is still allowed on the private balcony, but not in the cabin. However, e-cigarettes are allowed here.
Social engagement and environmental protection
Social responsibility and environmental protection are two topics that are very important to Costa. In terms of social engagement, the Costa Crociere Foundation deserves special mention: together with the Francesca Rava Foundation, the latest 2019 project gave away new items from Costa cruise ships that were no longer needed, such as furniture, dishes and home textiles, in the poorest suburbs of Haiti.
Costa Crocere has been cooperating with the Italian National Research Council (CNR) since February 2015. The state organization for the protection and development of overarching interests, for example, provides the Italian large-scale fisheries with electronic acoustic devices that protect whales and dolphins from nets.
When it comes to environmental friendliness, the latest flagship of the cruise line, Costa Smeralda is particularly exemplary: Together with the AIDAnova, the liner took first place in the 2019 Nabu cruise ranking.
