Before the cruise

Piers
The partner cruise lines, as those responsible for route planning and ship management, ensure that the cruise runs as smoothly and as planned as possible. Some destinations are particularly in demand. Due to an associated increase in the number of ships,at some piers several ships are moored next to each other. This can lead to impaired visibility and noise.Even short-term changes to the berth cannot be ruled out in this context.  
Diets / food intolerances
Before booking, please be sure to find out whether it is possible to accommodate special dietary requirements and food intolerances on the ship you have booked. If this is the case, your wishes will be forwarded to the ship in advance.  
Pets
Taking animals aboard river ships is not permitted.
Vaccinations
You will find information on vaccination regulations for river ships traveling around the world in the supplement "Embarkation instructions", which you will receive in good time with your travel documents.
Shore excursions
River cruises offer extensive opportunities to get to know the country and its people through the shore excursions.
Your Phoenix cruise management or ship reception will arrange organized excursions in most destinations and provide you with extensive information. You will receive the detailed program with your travel documents approximately 3 weeks before the start of your cruise or you can find it on the website.
If your email address is available, you will automatically receive a notification when your cruise is activated online or the excursions can be booked (at the latest 2 months before departure). You can make your excursion requests either directly on board or online before the start of your cruise (no later than 5 days before departure. Excursions that take place on the first day of the cruise can only be booked in advance).
Under “My Phoenix” you will find all the information about your excursion program as well as the option to select the excursions you want with a click of the mouse. Payment is made on board.In some travel destinations, many or all excursions are already included in the travel price: Egypt, Brazil, Africa, Cambodia/Vietnam, India and Croatia.On ships in Europe you will receive free radio-controlled audio receivers including headphones when you take part in the excursion.
Oxygen equipment
Oxygen devices that work with "ambient air" are allowed on board (concentrator). For safety reasons, the transportation of liquid oxygen with a maximum volume of 10 liters is allowed. The registration of the devices must be made upon booking. Otherwise, transportation is not possible. Please send the technical information of the device in advance.
Pregnancy
For safety reasons, we advise expectant mothers as of the 28th week of pregnancy not to go on a cruise. It is recommended that you consult your doctor.      
Gratuity
Gratuities are not mandatory on the ships, but are welcome. If you are satisfied with the service, a guideline of € 4, - to € 5, - per guest / day applies.Thank you.

During the cruise

Boutiques / shops
Most riverboats have a small boutique or shop with a selection of souvenirs, clothing, toiletries, sweets and possibly jewelry and cosmetics.
Itineraries - an open word
Unlike ocean ruises, river cruises are not so much dependent on wind and weather, but on the water level of the river and the functioning of the locks. Due to unpredictable high and low water or delays in lock and bridge passages, it may be necessary to change the travel itinerary. In the extreme case, a local agency or the cruise line may use another available means of transportation for impassable river routes.
It may also happen that in such a case certain program points may be replaced by alternatives or cannot be visited. The order of the ports-of-call are subject to change.
On cross-border cruises, despite the best preparation by the ship management, there may occasionally be delays in the regulatory formalities. Individual passport and customs controls are not the rule but cannot be ruled out.
On certain sections of the river (for example Main, Neckar, in France) some very low bridges have to be crossed. The ship crew takes appropriate precautions, dismantling the railing and the windscreen and sinking the bridge hydraulically to ensure safe passage. Temporarily the sundeck may be blocked. It is then not possible to be on the sundeck in the sense of your own safety.
Photos
Upon arrival at some destinations along the Rhine and the Danube, professional photographers await you. The produced photos will be offered for sale upon return on board.
Health
Aboard all ships there is a small first aid kit for emergency care. If medical care is required, contact will be established on European rivers with a general practitioner or clinic. For travels abroad, the conclusion of a foreign health insurance is recommended. Already prescribed medications should be taken on board in sufficient quantities. Please inform yourself in time about infection and vaccine protection as well as other prophylactic measures. If necessary, medical advice, e.g. on thrombosis and other health risks should be sought.Unfortunately, dialysis and dental treatments cannot be carried out on board. It is also not possible to do dialysis independently in the cabin.
Internet
Wi-Fi internet access is available on all river ships. Use is only possible via satellite connection with your own devices and may be restricted due to the sailing area or the ship's position. Large files or audio/video streaming services (e.g. YouTube, Internet radio) or voice/video chat (e.g. Skype) cannot be transferred. To use it, you can purchase on board minute packages of different durations.. You can find out about the prices at the ship's reception or in the onboard folder in the cabin.
Cabin presents
On most river ships you are welcome to send your greetings to guests in the form of a gift. It is usually possible to order various gifts, such as vouchers for excursions (minimum value €25), with a personal greeting. The cabin greeting is delivered directly to the cabin during the first few days of the cruise.      
Cruise management
On board you will be looked after by the Phoenix cruise management, the captain, hotel manager and the attentive ship crew. Everyone is at your side with advice and action. During the shore excursions you will usually be accompanied by German-speaking tour guides from the local agencies.
Smoking on board
Phoenix asks for your understanding that smoking on river boats is only permitted in the marked and defined areas on the outer decks. The cruise line follows the national and international efforts and the valid legislation for the protection of non-smokers.Smoking is not permitted inside the ship! Thank you for your understanding.
Restaurants
All ships have comfortable and cozy restaurants according to their category. Often, large windows provide great views even during meals. An attentive restaurant and kitchen team will take care of your culinary well-being either à la carte or in buffet style.
Wheelchair-bound persons
The river boats are unfortunately not structurally suitable for guests who rely exclusively on a wheelchair. Please also note that certain routes are not recommended for guests with mobility impairments. In addition, the piers are not designed to be handicapped accessible.Due to the increased volume of ships, several ships are moored next to each other at some moorings. Going ashore is then often only possible via stairs and the sun deck.
Telephone
Today, using your own mobile phone is possible in most river destination areas worldwide. When traveling abroad, please inform yourself from your telephone / network provider in advance about the connection costs. All ships have an onboard telephone system (cabins / reception) and an external emergency number. Some ships also have the option of calling via the mobile ship system. More information can be found in the travel documents.
Entertainment
Theme and quiz evenings as well as live entertainment on board (e.g. guest artists) with the opportunity to dance take place on most cruises. A selection of board games and an assortment of books are usually available to you. Regional events, folklore performances, language courses or lectures about the country and its people take place on many cruises. Please note that the entertainment program can only be offered to a limited extent on the smaller river ships. During the overnight stops, your ship usually anchors in a place that invites you to take an evening walk on land.      
Meals
Full board: rich breakfast buffet, multi-course lunch and dinner (on some smaller ships often in buffet form: e.g. Amazon Clipper Premium);
Afternoon coffee / tea and pastries (on Magellan on river days). Midnight snack on most ships.

Full board plus: full board and mineral water and coffee / tea free of charge during the day on cruises with MS Amazon Clipper Premium, MY Coral II, MS Sukapha, MS Ganges Voyager and MS Lan Diep.

All inclusive: full board with a rich breakfast buffet, multi-course lunch and dinner, afternoon coffee / tea and pastries as well as midnight snack, house wines, draft beer, non-alcoholic beer, soft drinks such as cola, lemonade and mineral water, juices and coffee / tea daily from 08:00-24:00

Documents and papers

Additional costs
Phoenix's prices are final prices. Use of the the onboard facilities is free of charge. Embarkation and disembarkation fees as well as all port and lock fees are included. Lectures, video and small or large entertainment programs are also included. On river cruises in Egypt, Brazil, Galapagos/Ecuador, Cambodia/Vietnam, India, Croatia and on the Baltic Sea, many excursions are already included in the cruise price. The range of drinks offers a wide variety at fair, moderate prices. Gratuity is not obligatory, but an extra reward for good service and friendly service is very welcome.
Travel documents
Information regarding the entry requirements for German citizens can be found in the catalogs and on the website for each cruise and in the enclosed "Embarkation Information", which you will receive with the travel documents. Citizens of other states please inquire with the competent authorities. Please note that children traveling on abroad need to have their own travel document. Entries in the parent's passport are invalid.
Travel documents
You will receive your personal travel documents approximately 3 weeks before departure. For cruisrs of up to 7 days, the cruise line will send you these conveniently and environmentally friendly in digital form, and for longer cruises in paper form. If you wish, you can also receive the documents exclusively in digital form for longer cruises. The travel documents contain a personal travel plan for all guests with the booked services, luggage tags, boarding instructions, general information and much more. In addition, for cruises lasting 2 days or more, you will receive a Marco Polo travel guide that has been specially compiled for your river cruise. If the documents are sent in paper form, the travel guide is included with the documents, and if they are sent digitally, it is ready for you in your cabin. As of approximately 3 weeks before departure, all travel documents are also available in “My Phoenix”.      
Means of payment
The onboard currency is the EURO (on MS Lan Diep, MS Sukapha, MS Ganges Voyager and MY Coral II the onboard currency is the USD). The ships will set up a cabin account for you for the duration of your cruise. You can pay for your onboard expenses either with  VISA or MasterCard credit card, Girocard or with cash in EURO. You will receive precise information relevant to your ship in your travel documents.
As a rule, it is also possible to withdraw cash from ATMs on land using a credit card or Girocard (in Europe and certain worldwide destinations). If necessary, please clarify whether your Girocard is activated for use abroad.

- Varanasi: excursion to Sarnath with Buddhist Park; boat ride on thr Ganges along the ghats and walk in the old town
- Serampore: walking tour of the Danish taverns and St. Olav's Church
- Santipur: walking tour with visit to the banana plantations
- Kalna: market visit, visit to the Rajbari Temple Complex
- Mayapur: visit to ISKCON and pilgrim bazaar
- Guptipara: visit to the Vaishnav Temple and Pottery Village
- Phulia: visit to the village with sari handicrafts
- Bandel: visit to Hugli Imambara
- Chandannagar: walking tour of the village, visit to the French museum, visit to the Sacred Heart Church
- Kolkata: visit to the flower market and Kumartuli, panoramic ride
Children/ youth discount:
Children 2-11 years receive a 30% discount on the passage price if the accommodation is in the same cabin with at least one adult. Infants up to 2 years are not allowed embarkation. More information is available upon request.
