Montevideo (about 1.5 million inhabitants) is the capital of Uruguay on the Rio de la Plata. There are two interpretations about the name: A sailor is said to have called from the masthead of a ship: "Video monte"; I see a mountain, the second version is said to date from Spanish navigation charts - Monte VI deo (the 6th mountain from East to West) .Since the beginning of the 19th century, the city has suffered many times through sieges and bombardments by England, Spain, Portugal, Brazil and Argentina.

Cruise offers to the port Montevideo / Uruguay
Tourism does not play an important role in Montevideo, even though a cruise ship arrives in the port every now and then and the neighbors from Buenos Aires occasionally come across for shopping. But there are no waves of visitors that flood the city, and therefore no artificially styled tourist mile and no aggressive sellers who hassle the stranger.
Among the places of interest are: the park of Ordonez, particularly the rose garden, the Toranco Palace, the Independence Square and the Square of Constitution
The beaches are integrated into the cityscape.
