Kotor is a port city in Montenegro. It has about 19,000 residents. The town lies on the Bay of Kotor and is famous for its old town. In the 14th century Kotor played such a large role for the trade in the Adriatic Sea, that iy vied for competition with Venice and the Republic of Ragusa (Dubrovnik). In 1420 the city and harbor came under Venetian rule.
