The main gate to Korea with international seaport. Above the harbor lies the Chayu Park commemorating the landing of General McArthur in 1950, which ushered in the favorable end for the Ssuth in the Korean War of 1950-53. The Bomunsa temple lies outside the town on the island of Seokmodo. As legend has it, it was founded in the year 635 by Queen Seondeok of the Silla dynasty. The main attraction is the "seated Buddha," which was carved 10 meters high into a rock. The island Seokmodo has a beautiful sandy beach, which is often used as a backdrop for film recordings.
