Ua Huka, Marquesas / Polynesia

The island of Ua Huka, also known as the "horse island", is one of the six main islands of the Marquesas (French Polynesia), a mountainous island group in the vicinity of the equator, where wild horses, goats and pigs live. About ten rugged islands belong to this archipelago, located 1,500 kilometers from Tahiti. Main means of transportation is the helicopter, the bad roads on the islands can be used only with an off-road vehicle. Horses are the best way to explore the inland.

Ua Huka consists mainly of high plateaus, almost desert-like areas, whose summit is not higher than 855 meters.
