Sousse / Tunisia

The Tunisian city Sousse (also: Susa) is located in the north-east of the country. The city has about 230,000 inhabitants and has an important Mediterranean port.
Probably the city was already founded by Phoenicians as a trading port in the 9th century and experienced an immense boom in antiquity and the Middle Ages, first because of the textile industry and second because of tourism. The city is still characterized by these exciting opposites: on the one hand historical buildings in the old town, on the other hand, beach life and French architecture in the north of the city.

One of the greatest attraction of the city is the city wall with the kasbah (a fortress that towers above the city) that was built around the same time as the beautiful Great Mosque. The Ribat, mainly a watchtower, also dates from this time. The Bou Fatata Mosque is also worth seeing, next to the Koran school al-Zaqqāq with the Turkish minarets. In the surroundings, there is also a regular market, a lively and interesting corner of the city.
For recreation, the beaches in the north of the city are very beautiful, where there is also a distinctive tourist infrastructure.Thus diving equipment and surfing equipment can be rented here - and then off into the water to experience the wonderful sea here.
