Siem Reap / Cambodia

Siem Reap is a city with about 60,000 inhabitants in the middle of Cambodia, 10 km north-east of the Tonle Sap Lake, the largest lake in southeast Asia and one of the most fish-rich inland waters on both sides of the Siem Reap River (Stung Seam Reap). Most  inhabitants live from rice farming and fishing.
Siem Reap is mostly visited by the temples of Angkor, which are not far from the city.

First, the colonial center is remarkable, built in the French style. One of the oldest Buddhist temples in the city is the Wat Bo with magnificent murals. The Wat Thmei is home to a stupa of bones of the Red Khmer. The Landmine Museum also recalls this. Also visit the markets, go shopping, enjoy the fantastic cuisine and treat yourself to an elephant ride. Sculpture and weaving are also very popular in Siem Reap.
Also a visit to the Tonle Sap lake is worthwhile, through the numerous villages, past pile dwellings and houseboats. The lake is also a bird sanctuary. And finally attract the fantastic temples of Angkor Wat!
