Ørnes / Norway

Despite a fire some of the houses date from around 1800. These buildings painted white and covered with slate with their rococo decorations around doors and windows let the style of the time clearly be recognized. In the middle of Ørnes is the once important trading house which was built in 1794 when Elling Pedersen received permission to operate a restaurant. In the following years the appertaining buildings were already built. Until today, the main house, the forge and the bakery are preserved. Near Ørnes is Svartisen ("Black Ice"), the second largest glacier in the country.
