The core of the old town lies around the early-Gothic cathedral (11th-13th century) with its Romanesque westwork. One can find, for example, the Old Town Hall with its arcade built in the 13th century. The former episcopal town also houses numerous buildings of the so-called Weser Renaissance, such as the government building of the old Minden government district, Haus Hill in Bäckerstraße and the Hagemeyer House on the Scharn. Also built in the style of the Weser Renaissance is the Haddenhausen Palace from the 17th century. Nice are also the many old mills which were reconstructed in and around Minden. The city also has two very important and interesting museums: the Prussian Museum, housed in the former defensive barracks at Simeonsplatz and the Minden Museum of National and Folklore with the attached Coffee Museum.
