The group of the four Lacepede Islands (East Iceland, Iceland Middletown, Sandy Iceland and west Iceland) is located off the Australian north west coast. In 1801 the French explorer Nicolas Baudin discovered the four islands, naming it after the famous zoologist and naturalist Bernard Germain Etienne Médard de La Ville-sur-Illon, Comte de La Cepede, whose son was also present at the discovery of the islands. Today the Lacepede Islands are officially nature protected.
