The Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur ("muddy estuary"), with its two million inhabitants, was founded in 1857, by miners in search of tin. Under British colonial rule Kuala Lumpur was first appointed the administrative center of the country. Today the city is a vibrant, multicultural metropolis, where the old and the new blend harmoniously and excitingly.

Many religious buildings of different faiths adorn the cityscape of Kuala Lumpur, including the impressive Thean Hou Temple on Robson Hill, the post-modern Masjid Negara Mosque and the Anglican St Mary's Cathedral. Overhanging all roofs majestically grow both skyscrapers, the "Petronas Towers' into the sky, which are the tallest twin towers in the world with their 452 meters. At the feet of this architectural record holder is the so-called 'Golden Triangle', the modern city center with its shops and bars. Those who prefer it somewhat quieter should explore on a walk the Lake Gardens, a huge park, which houses in its complex the most diverse areas including a butterfly park, a site for deer, an orchid garden and also the largest bird park in southeast Asia. Another exciting experience is a visit to daily night market in Chinatown, which starts its operation in the evening hours.
