The gigantic Roman fortress ruins, located on the eastern shore of Lake Nasser is visited by boat. The fort, which was once strategically important point of Nubia, was destroyed in 1812 during the Mamluken War. During the excavations in the ruins of the town were found ancient Egyptian temples, old Coptic churches, Christian cemeteries, bishop and priest graves, but also memory recesses from the time of the Roman general Petronius (23-22 B.C). However, the greatest fund was the discovery of a meter long scroll from gazelle leather with Coptic and old Nubian and Arab-Coptic texts.
