At the mouth of the Issel into the Isselmeer is the Dutch Kampen.Die city was built around the year 1000 from a village along a dike. Early on Kampen or Campen was because of its location on the estuary an important port and trading town. The city joined in 1441 the German Hanseatic League.Campen was for some time the most important Dutch city within this city union.Today small industrial companies have their headquarters here. Other sources of income are agriculture and tourimus focusing on watersport.

From the heyday several historical buildings are still preserved: the town hall with a beautiful Interior e.g from the 16th century; three city gates; the new tower (17th century, with chimes from the famous bell-founder Hemony; three old churches, of which especially the Nicholas or the Upper Church (Bovenkerk) is worth seeing. Of the old houses have, unfortunately, only a few have been preserved. The "IJsselfront", the row of houses along the river, dates from the mid-19th century.
