The village with the unusual name Ittoqqortoormiit was founded in the 20th century. Since the environment is very rich in animals, from muskoxen to walruses, some families settled here to escape the scarce food in their hometown. Today about 500 people live here although the place is very cold even for arctic conditions. Otherwise, the village is very lonely located in the northeast of Greenland.
