Lobos and San Cristóbal are among the Galapagos Islands, an archipelago in the Pacific Ocean, about 1,000 km west of the coast of Ecuador. The name of this island group is derived from the Spanish word galápago, which among other things means as much as "bulge saddle" and refers to one of the native species of turtles whose armor has the shape of a saddle. San Cristóbal is one of the five inhabited islands of the archipelago.
