More about the island's history, you find out at the Island Museum of Flores, housed in a former Franciscan monastery in the capital Santa Cruz das Flores. Then visit the adjacent monastery church Igreja de Sao Boaventura and the Igreja Matriz da Nossa Senhora de Conceição, the main church of Santa Cruz. Large parts of the scenic beautiful island are today recognized as a nature reserve. An ideal starting point for hikes offers the place Fajã Grande, the most western town in Europe. Three of the four marked trails of Flores begin or end here.
