Faaborg is a small town with about 7,200 inhabitants,located on the southern Danish island of Funen. In 1229 the site was first mentioned when King Waldemar II. offered Fåborg to the Portuguese Princess Eleonore as a present.

The old town of Faaborg is one of the best preserved old town quarters throughout Denmark. Marvel on a tour, for example, at the only surviving ancient city gate in the whole country, as well as the now freestanding bell tower of the former city church, which was no longer used after the Reformation and subsequently demolished. Worth a visit is also the Faaborg Museum opened in 1915 which displays an extensive collection of works by Fyn artists. Nature lovers should take a trip to the surrounding area. A suitable destination is, for example, the conservation area  located north of town with its beautiful lake.
