Cruise offers to the port Esmeraldas / Ecuador
Esmeraldas has broad Pacific beaches and houses, which are covered with thatched roofs. Pelicans flying in formation can be observed. In the humid tropical rainforest grow the highest mangrove trees in the world. Also the last major contiguous jungle patches of coastal regions are to be found in this "emerald" province of Esmeraldas.
December and January prove on average as the best travel months, although the northern coastal region can actually be experienced throughout the year. The differences between rainy and dry season cannot as clearly be separated as in southern coastal areas. Particularly north of the provincial capital of Esmeraldas there is hardly a week throughout the year during which there are not enough hours of sunshine for the tanning-avid people.
The Museum of the Central Bank with its archaeological parts of the Tolita culture is one of the main attractions.
Beautiful jewelry made of black coral is gladly offered by locals. However, from the purchase of the critically endangered black reefs you should take safe distance for environmental reasons.
