Elizabeth Bay, Isla Isabela; Galapagos Islands / Galapagos Islands

The Elizabeth Bay is a bay on the island of Isabela. With an area of 4,640 km2 Isabela is the largest of the Galapagos Islands. It accounts for about half of the land area of the entire archipelago.It got its name after the Spanish Queen Isabella I. (1451 - 1504)who financially supported the voyages of Christopher Columbus. On Isabela now live about 950 people, most of them in the catchment area of the capital of Puerto Villamil, on the southeast coast.

Isabela is an ideal place for individual tourists and nature lovers. There are many worthwhile destinations and activities: snorkeling and diving in the crystal clear water, the Muro de las Lágrimas ( a 10-m-high wall in the wilderness built in 1950s by convicts), the sanctuary of the giant tortoises or just a walk in the snow-white fine sand where one can encounter the one or the other pelican or a sea lion. Characteristic of the flora of the entire archipelago is also the fact that because of the carpenter bee, which can be found there as the only species of bee, only yellow flowers bloom there.
