Cruise offers to the port Dendera / Egypt
Already in the Old Kingdom Dendera was an important town. In the writings of Pharaoh Cheops and Pepi I. this sanctuary of the local goddess Hathor is mentioned. The kings of the 12th Dynasty, Thutmose III, Ramses II. and Ramses III. restored the temple area of Dendera. The today visible structure was created however by the last of the Ptolemies kings, probably on the site of the old building. The Roman emperors Augustus and Tiberius then completed the construction. The oldest representation of the goddess Hathor is shown on the victory panel of Narmer, the founder of the 1st dynasty. The goddess Hathor is therefore one of the oldest deities in Egypt. She was the mistress and wife of the sky god Horus. While her husband in Edfu had its main temple, Hathor resided in Dendera. Their son Ihi was the youthful god of music. Therefore, the Dendera Temple hosts a so-called triad, similar to that of Abydos with Osiris, Isis and Horus. In Greek and Ptolemaic period the goddess Hathor is equated with Aphrodite, by the Romans with the Vernus.
