Curu is one of the smallest protected areas of the country, which is mostly covered by mangroves and tropical dry forest. Animal species encountered here are capuchin monkeys, white trunk bears and raccoons, in the coastal waters live many species of waterfowl. Wildlife viewing is best possible during the dry season (January-March). The owner campaigns in a self-sacrificing way for spider monkeys, which are still too often kept as pets in Costa Rica. The animals are here slowly adapted to life in the wild and later released.
