Coats Island is an unpopulated island, located in the north of Hudson Bay, in the Canadian Arctic-Archipelago. It was once named after the former captain William Coats, who worked for the Hudson's Bay Company and who regularly traveled to the island from 1727 to 1751. Until the death of its last representative in 1903, on Coats Island live the people of the ethnic group Sallirmut.
