Bergen is one of the most charming cities in Norway, not least due to its unique setting between seven hills. The 218,000-inhabitant city is the second largest city in the country and capital of "Fylke Hordaland". In 1070 the city of Bergen was conferred city rights by Bishop Olav Kyrre, in 1217 King Hakon IV declared the town the seat of government of Norway. Today, the oldest and most famous wooden houses of the city are located on the "Bryggen", the former landing dock of the Hanseatic.
