Bamberg / Germany
Bamberg is an independent city in Franconia (Bavaria) and at the same time seat of the district Bamberg in the district of Upper Franconia. Bamberg is university, archdiocese -, beer and administrative city. The attractive old town is listed as the largest intact preserved historic center in Germany, since 1993 a world heritage site in the list of UNESCO.
Art appreciating viewers get amazed and rave if only given the rich religious and secular architecture. Often visitors are surprised by the imposing size, spectacular ornaments, rich embellishments and details.
The world heritage fascinates by its unique historical townscape, which captures the viewer instantly. Monumental, that has grown in more than 1000 years:
The cathedral, the old town hall in the midst of Regnitz, Little Venice or the New Residence with its baroque rose garden. The Böttingerhaus, Concordia and the former Benedictine Monastery of St. Michael. Grandiose by artists such as Balthasar Neumann, the Dientzenhofern, Tilman Riemenschneider and Veit Stoss.

Who the Bamberger knight represents is unknown. However, it is speculated by some researchers that this is Istvan of Hungary who married Gisela, the sister of Henry II The rider could also be a Staufer king or generally the epitome of a perfect ruler. But these,too, are only speculations.
