Häfen zum Reiseziel Danube von A bis Z
Bratislava lies on the Danube, which here reaches a width of up to 300 meters and is spanned in the city by 4 bridges. The best known and most modern is the SNP bridge over the Danube, a huge road bridge stretching from the southern bank of the Danube towards the old city center which is one of the landmarks of the city.
Bratislava (German Pressburg, Hungarian Pozsony) is an old border and bridge city whose symbol has been a castle for centuries, called the "Hrad"
The city is located on the southwestern edge of Slovakia near the border triangle, the meeting point of the borders of Slovakia, Hungary and Austria.
From Bratislava to Vienna - the capital of Austria - the distance is about 65 kilometers - ideal for a day trip.
After Budapest, the capital of Hungary, the distance is about 195 kilometers.
Melk was built on the site of the former Roman colony of Namare at the foot of a Babenberg castle, which became a Benedictine monastery in 1089. In 1227 the settlement got market rights, in 1898 it was promoted to city. The original monastery was heavily damaged by fire and was redesigned as a magnificent baroque building at the beginning of the 18th century. The Marble Hall, a prestigious festive hall as well as the library and the monastery church with important interior equipment are the remarkable details of the monastery complex.
With a city of this format, it is hardly possible to capture all the sights in one day, let alone get a serious overview of the extensive history. The Viennese flair will meet with you very quickly.
