Pylos, Peloponnes / Greece

Pylos is located on the southern west coast of the Greek island of Peloponnese. Like almost everywhere in Greece, this place also has a long past and a mythical tradition. It was not until 1952 that a Mycenaean city was excavated here. But even without the ancient ruins this city would be worth seeing. Typical Greek with whitewashed houses is located in a very beautiful bay and already at the port the first sights welcome the visitor.

The "Monument to the Three Admirals", which reminds of the Battle of 1827, stands at the harbor. All around are excellent restaurants and simple tavernas. To the north and south of the port you can visit old fortresses with a Gothic church from the 16th century: absolutely recommendable. However, the visitor should not miss visiting the Mycenaean settlement a few kilometers from the port, between visits to the port and the beach in the beautiful bay. Here you can mainly see the remains of a palace.
