Chiang Rai / Thailand
Chiang Rai is the capital of the same-named northern Thai province. The city with its 138,000 inhabitants, is located in a beautiful mountain landscape, on the banks of the Mekong tributary Maenam Kok.
Particularly worth seeing are the many beautiful temples of Chinag Rai, one of the most famous is the Wat Phra Kaeo Don Tao, where once the magnificent Emerald Buddha was discovered. Very old is the Wat Phra That Doi Chom Thong, the place where once the decision about the establishment the modern city of Chiang Rai was taken. Contemporary and of a very special form is the Wat Rong Khum, whose construction began in the year 1998. Also take trips to the surrounding area and meanwhile explore one of the four magnificent national parks in the province. Worth a trip is also the 7-km-long cave complex of Tham Luang.
