Balholm, Sognefjord / Noorwegen

The Sognefjord in Norway is the longest (204 km) fjord in Europe and the deepest (1,380 m) in the world. It is manifested in many smaller side arms, e.g. Aurlandsfjord, Lustrafjord or Nærøyfjord (the narrowest fjord in Europe).
Its western end lies at Sygnefest, its eastern end is Øvre Årdal (at Årdalsfjord). It is striking here how strongly the climate changes from west to east. If there is a typical sea climate in the west, it becomes more continental inland. In front of the mouth of the fjord there is a rocky underwater, which allows only the warm surface water of the North Sea to flow into the fjord. As a result, the climate as a whole is mild and allows extensive fruit cultivation, especially on the north bank.

Andere plaatsen langs de fjord bent u. a. Balestrand, Vadheim, Høyanger, Vik, Leikanger, Gudvangen, Aurland, Sogndal, Kaupanger, Lærdal, Hafslo, Marifjøra en Skolden.
