Jost Van Dyke Island, GB-Virgin Islands / Caribbean

Jost Van Dyke is one of the 40 British Virgin Islands belonging to the Virgin Islands (alongside the US Virgin Islands) and are a part of the Lesser Antilles. The Virgin Islands are located about 100 km east of Puerto Rico between the Atlantic and Caribbean. In 1493 they were discovered by Columbus. The main industry today is tourism, in addition to fishing and agriculture. Only 141 people live permanently on Jost Van Dyke. A Dutch pirate gave the island its name.

Visit the village of Great Harbour, which reminds with its picturesque wooden houses along a sandy beach of a bygone age. White Bay is best reached by boat, its beach is considered one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. Here is also the legendary bar "Foxy's". Sandy Cay is a small uninhabited offshoot island of Jost Van Dyke. You can reach it and its beautiful white sandy beach only by an individual boat, a ferry service is not available.
