Anjouan / Comoren
Anjouan is one of the four Comore islands. It is 424 km² large. The Comoros is an insular state in the Indian Ocean. The name comes from the Arabic language and means something like Moon Islands. In 1866, Anjouan came under French administration and in 1997, the islands Anjouan and Moheli declared their independenc. The attempt of the government to gain control over the rebellious islands by using weapons failed. Currently mediators of the African Union try to achieve a rapprochement.
