Albreda / Gambia

Albreda is a town with 1,800 inhabitants, located in the west African Gambia. The town was founded on the banks of the Gambia River, supposedly, in the 16th or 17th century by a marabout named Musa Gave from the African nation of Wolof. During the colonial period Albreda has long been a bone of contention between the British and the French and changed several times its colonial origin. The city also gained in these years notoriety as one of the main hubs of slave trade.
